Lee Ritenour & Oscar Castro Neves (1974) | 26 Mb

One of the rarest albums ever in the EMI catalog, never reissued in any format. Only 500 copies were printed! Produced by Aloysio de Oliveira for his Evento label, which he had founded a year before, as an affiliated label to Brazilian EMI. Both Ritenour and Castro Neves were in Brazil touring with Sergio Mendes (they performed in Rio at the Teatro Bloch, with the Brasil 77 joined by a symphony orchestra conducted by Dave Grusin), and Aloysio had the idea to pair them as co-leaders on "Um Encontro," the first album with Ritenour's name on the front cover.
The program includes nice versions of Gabor Szabo's "Mizrab" (which Lee would revisit 30 years later on "Overtime" - see below) and "Quem Diz Que Sabe," a song co-written by João Donato, Paulo Sergio Valle & Dora Beatriz which became among the 12 finalists of the "II Festival Internacional da Canção" in 1966. Two years later, Wes Montgomery recorded that song, retitled "Know It All," on his "Down Here On The Ground" album for A&M/CTI - by coincidence, that LP is being reissued this month here in the USA on the "Verve Originals" series.
Backed by an unobtrusive rhythm section, Rit & OCN also recorded a couple of Jobim songs ("Corcovado," "Wave"), two others by Michel Legrand ("Watch What Happens," "The Summer of '42"), pop hits of that time by Stevie Wonder ("You Are The Sunshine of My Life") and Gilbert O'Sullivan (a medley of "Alone Again" and "Clair"), an adaptation of the famous Adagio from Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez", and Castro-Neves' own haunting ballad "Companheira da Manhã," a song he had recorded one year earlier on the sublime "Alayde Costa & Oscar Castro-Neves" LP for EMI. Deep River of Song Alabama | 139 Mb

Recorded between 1934-1940 by folklorist John Lomax, this offers an interesting cross-section of songs sung by "real" people in Alabama. And a cross-section it really is, from blues to spirituals to lullabies to work songs. It's a collection that introduces a voice that should have become well-known -- Vera Ward Hall, who opens the set with a startlingly pure "Another Man Done Gone" and keeps cropping up throughout. While the emphasis is on song, there's also some wonderful harmonica playing on "Train on a Hill" by Richard Amerson (who also reminisces about his days on steamboats), and Tom Bell accompanies himself on guitar on "Worried Blues." Perhaps the most intriguing piece is "Billy Goat Latin" from Joe F. Williams & Booker T. Williams, a bizarre field holler. All the way through, material that's become quite familiar over the years pops up in its folk roots -- "Honey, Take a Whiff on Me," "Hush Little Baby," "Alabama Bound," and "Go to Sleep (Little Baby)" -- all of which have become part of the national consciousness. Lomax proves to be as able as his son in finding great performers (although you have to wonder when he asks one to take a song into double time, obviously a first-time occurrence for the subject of this particular recording).

Juke Boy Bonner Things Aint Right | 97 Mb

Juke Boy Bonner is a sadly overlooked Texas bluesman who started recording in the 1950s, and cut some great sides for the Arhoolie label in the 1960s. Bonner has a wonderfully ragged and soulful tenor voice that conveys a sense of intimacy and immediacy. He accompanies himself on electric guitar and harmonica, playing jumping, slashing shuffles and drones on the guitar while punctuating his songs with wailing, mournful harmonica solos. He bridges a gap between Electric Blues and Folk Blues by playing his electric guitar as if it was an acoustic. Bonner died in 1975, never really achieving any more than cult status.

Donald Hugh "Don" Henley (born July 22, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter and drummer, best known as a founding member of the Eagles before launching a successful solo career. Henley was the drummer and lead vocalist for the Eagles from 1971–1980, when the band broke up. After the Eagles broke up in 1980, Henley pursued a solo career.

As a solo artist, Henley has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, had eight Top 40 singles, won two Grammys and five MTV Video Music Awards. Combined with the Eagles and as a solo artist, Henley has released 25 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. He has released seven studio albums with the Eagles and four as a solo artist. In 2008, he was ranked the 87th greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

Released in 1989, The End of the Innocence is the third solo album by Don Henley. It is his best selling album, selling over 6 million copies in the United States, peaking at #8. The album released three Top 40 singles "The End of the Innocence", "The Heart of the Matter", and "The Last Worthless Evening". Those singles reached #8, #21, and #21 respectively. The album also featured "New York Minute" which reached #48 on the charts and was recorded by Henley and the Eagles for the live album Hell Freezes Over in 1994. Henley won another Grammy and an MTV Video Music Award for the title track. In 2003, the album was ranked number 389 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The song "I Will Not Go Quietly" features Axl Rose, a member of Henley's then-labelmates Guns N' Roses.

William Royce "Boz" Scaggs began a long and storied career in 1965 with the release of his first solo recording Boz. Scaggs quickly developed into an iconic singer songwriter cutting his teeth playing with Steve Miller on several highly successful projects and honing his rock and R&B chops working with the likes of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and Duane Allman. Scaggs hit it big in 1976 achieving multi-platinum success with Silk Degrees and its follow ups. Scaggs continued on a lauded and multi-genre musical journey to the present day.

Raised in Texas with an abiding respect for a wide spectrum of American roots music, Scaggs has combined rock, jazz, R&B and blues to create a trademark sound.
